Banyan invests in student finance underwritten by employment, not collateral. In sub-Saharan Africa five million young people finish high school every year, ready to train as nurses, engineers, and tradespeople. Yet enrolment rates for college and vocational training are a mere 9%. For most, the barrier is financial. Value-based student finance providers across Africa and Latin America have proven a model that works over two decades, unlocking livelihoods for thousands: graduates owe nothing until earning a living wage, with repayments proportional to income. To reach millions more, the asset class needs to be investable. Banyan purchases the repayment streams of employed graduates, freeing provider capital to finance the next cohort and creating a globally diversified income product with returns to investors from day one.
